{"id":2099,"date":"2021-10-24T21:56:40","date_gmt":"2021-10-24T21:56:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.turkopticon.net\/?p=2099"},"modified":"2021-10-24T22:09:17","modified_gmt":"2021-10-24T22:09:17","slug":"welcome-to-grad-student-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.turkopticon.net\/?p=2099","title":{"rendered":"Welcome to Grad Student Season!\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text-build-content\" data-testid=\"JpbP7cW6X\"><b>Welcome to Grad Student Season!\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"text-build-content\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-testid=\"JpbP7cW6X\">If you have noticed an increase in available HITs lately, you aren\u2019t alone! \u00a0With fall semesters in full swing across the world of academia, grad students are beginning to use Mturk for their research, and some of them for the first time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-build-content\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-testid=\"JpbP7cW6X\">\n<p class=\"text-build-content\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-testid=\"JpbP7cW6X\">Here are some tips on working with these new academic requesters:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Have a look at worker reviews if there are any. \u00a0This can sometimes ease that \u201cnew requester\u201d anxiety.<\/li>\n<li>Everyone makes mistakes. \u00a0If you see a glaring error in a requester\u2019s HIT, a polite approach is appreciated. Many requesters receive little to no training on how to use Mturk.<\/li>\n<li>If you have questions on a HIT, reach out to the requester. Obtaining clarification will reduce your risk of rejection and increase the quality of the data in the study. If we want requesters to continue to provide work, we need to give good quality data.<\/li>\n<li>Sometimes a requester rejects and they either didn\u2019t mean to do it or didn\u2019t understand what a rejection would mean for the worker. \u00a0If this is the case, asking for a reversal and providing them with a link to instructions on how to reverse it can be quite helpful.
