New Features

We made a couple of small additions to turkopticon.net, both showing up under the AMT Requester column:

“Requester on AMT” link

For those cases when you want to check the requester’s profile on Amazon Mechanical Turk, their available HITs (if there are any at that moment), and if you want to look at their approval rating, activity level and average time to pay after checking the reviews that were left on our website.

“Contact the requester” link

Sender and recipient’s fields will be already filled in. The subject line can be changed with, for example, the HIT Title / ID you will be referring to. Always write a polite and respectful message, remember it might affect your relationship with the requester and therefore, your status on Amazon Mechanical Turk.

You can use this to explain the possible issues you might have had, like HITs with error/bugs, no code provided at the end of a survey, the reason why you returned a HIT like when the proper instructions were not provided, lack of a screener being used, or even additional information that might be useful for requesters. Remember, they are humans like us, and most of them will appreciate our feedback!

TO2: ENDGAME

Turkopticon.info, also known as TO2 in the turker-world, was launched in 2017 as a non-moderated forum alternative to our main website.

At the start of this year we began phasing out TO2, while still giving users the option to continue using it. After getting feedback from our users and with our attention being focused on turkopticon.net, it is now time to say goodbye to TO2.

As of January 1st 2022, all traffic from the old TO2 website will be redirected to the main turkopticon.net website, as it will continue to work as usual,

Turkopticon is looking for suggestions!

Do you have suggestions for how to make Turkopticon better and would like to share them with us?

Please email volunteercoms@turkopticon.net and someone will be in contact to further hear about your suggestions and see how we all can work together to make Turk better for all of us.

Even if you think your ideas are ones we should know please don’t be afraid to send them our way because we listen to all suggestions and want everyone to be heard!

Turkopticon helps the people in the 'crowd' of crowdsourcing watch out for each other—because nobody else seems to be! Almost half of the Mechanical Turk workers who wrote their Bill of Rights demanded protection from employers who take their work without paying. Turkopticon lets you REPORT and AVOID shady employers.
