JOIN OVER 400 TURKERS IN ENDING THE HARM OF MASS REJECTIONS

Happy New Year, Turkopticon members! We hope you had a wonderful holiday and are ready to see new and exciting things come from us this year. In less than a month, we have gathered over 500 signatures, but we need more. Join over 500 workers asking Amazon Mturk employees to end the harm of mass rejections by signing our petition here!

SIGN OUR PETITION

We recently launched our first petition to end the harm of mass rejections which in reality is wage theft and illegal. Definition of wage theft from Wikipedia: “Wage theft is the denial of wages or employee benefits rightfully owed to an employee. It can be conducted by employers in various ways, among them failing to pay overtime; violating minimum-wage laws; the misclassification of employees as independent contractors, illegal deductions in pay; forcing employees to work “off the clock,” not paying annual leave or holiday entitlements, or simply not paying an employee at all.” Over the past two years, we have reached out to workers worldwide, asking what is the major issue that you see with Mturk. The most pressing issue is mass rejections and how they can harm the worker’s ratings and affect their self-esteem. We need all workers to stand together to end the harm, whether you’re a new worker or a seasoned one; mass rejections hurt us all, and that harm needs to end. We all deserve to be paid for our honest, hard work and not have to just work harder to cover the rejection’s effect on our approval rating.

Amazon does not believe this is an issue because it happens less than two percent of the time. However, if you take a few from millions, the numbers are significant. Workers have to fight for the rejections to be overturned through no fault of their own, except trusting requesters not to abuse the platform. Many times these requesters do not even take the time to respond to workers. They get free data, and workers have no recourse.

Turkopticon is calling on all Mturk workers to take a stand with over 400 others to demand that Mturk employees end this harm before it destroys the platform we so love. We need your support now more than ever!

New Feature “Review” link

We have added a new link on every page to leave a review for a new requester on the top of each page.

Turkopticon is looking for suggestions!

Do you have suggestions for how to make Turkopticon better and would like to share them with us?

Please email volunteercoms@turkopticon.net and someone will be in contact to further hear about your suggestions and see how we all can work together to make Turk better for all of us.

Even if you think your ideas are ones we should know please don’t be afraid to send them our way because we listen to all suggestions and want everyone to be heard!

Turkopticon helps the people in the 'crowd' of crowdsourcing watch out for each other—because nobody else seems to be! Almost half of the Mechanical Turk workers who wrote their Bill of Rights demanded protection from employers who take their work without paying. Turkopticon lets you REPORT and AVOID shady employers.
